I had heard quite a lot about this restaurant-Moorings and I therefore had written it down in my notebook as one of the places that I had to visit. What makes this place interesting is the fact that it is a floating restaurant at the Mtwapa creek and one enjoys the beautiful waterfront view as they indulge in the assortment of sorts offered. You can use public transport or get a cab and once you cross the Mtwapa bridge, you will take the first turn to the left (if you are coming from Mombasa town).
I count it as a beautiful coincidence when I met a traveler who hails from Ethiopia- Azeb- who wanted to visit the place after I had suggested it as one of the places she should visit and thus, we both headed to the popular spot.
The spot has been operating since 1994 and it mainly serves seafood- prawns, crabs, lobster and fish in various forms. We waited a while for like 35 to 45 minutes after we had made our orders but the food was worth the wait and I must admit I really did love their food except for the fish a’la muna which I felt was not well done because it was burnt on one side which was facing down 🙁 and the taste so basic. On the other side, the spinach-cheese ravioli which was a vegetarian option that Azeb had was so yummy and it left us having a conversation on being vegetarian and I having thoughts of becoming one but nope! Not now :-).
Apart from the food and great views (we only had these though), one can also get to experience a dhow cruise day trip or a sundowner cruise.
You can check out their website- http://www.themoorings.co.ke/ for the food prices and any other information about the restaurant.
Love and grace!
